Omann Jun floating bedside tables (Made in Denmark 1960s)

A beautifully sculptural pair of floating bedside tables designed by Omann Jun and handcrafted by Ølholm Møbelfabrik in Denmark during the 1960s. Crafted from richly toned afromosia wood, these bedside cabinets embody the quiet elegance and refined craftsmanship that made Scandinavian Modern design so enduring.

The tables feature a striking organic silhouette with angular floating forms that appear to hover effortlessly from the wall. Their minimalist lines are softened by the warmth and depth of the afromosia grain, revealing a beautiful variation of tones throughout the timber. Both pieces retain their original character and are signed at the back, a wonderful mark of authenticity and quality craftsmanship from the period.

Elegant and highly functional, each bedside table offers practical storage while maintaining a light architectural presence, making them ideal for both Mid-Century and contemporary interiors. Their floating design creates a sense of openness and sophistication, perfectly reflecting the timeless Danish philosophy of simplicity, balance, and natural beauty.

These bedside tables are not only functional pieces of furniture but also sculptural works of design history, increasingly difficult to find in matching pairs and in such beautifully preserved condition.

Mid-Century dining table (by A Younger)

Before all else, this remarkable dining table stands as a celebration of the visionary work of John Herbert, the celebrated Head of Design for A Younger Ltd. In 1960, Herbert was honoured by the Furniture Makers’ Guild for his outstanding sideboards and tables, creations that helped define the elegance and refinement of British Mid-Century Modern furniture.

This rare dining table is one of those distinguished designs — a seldom-seen model that captures the quiet sophistication and architectural purity for which Herbert became renowned. Crafted in richly figured teak, the table features a stunning one-piece top with an exceptional flowing grain pattern. The natural movement within the timber creates alternating highlights and warm tonal variations, giving the surface a remarkable sense of depth and character beneath the light.

Unlike extending models, this version was designed with a fixed top, allowing the proportions and uninterrupted teak grain to remain beautifully balanced and harmonious. The table’s greatest triumph lies in the masterful joinery between the apron and legs. Herbert designed the structure with an elegant flush transition, where each element flows organically into the next with remarkable restraint and precision. This clean sculptural detailing gives the table its refined architectural presence while preserving the softness and warmth of the natural wood.

Raised on slender tapered legs, the table embodies the timeless principles of Scandinavian and British Mid-Century design — simplicity, craftsmanship, and enduring beauty. A rare and highly collectible piece that would sit effortlessly within both contemporary and traditional interiors.

Small extending dining table (McIntosh 1960)

Designed by Tom Robertson and handcrafted by A.H. McIntosh & Co. in Scotland during the 1960s, this exceptional dining table belongs to the celebrated Dunvegan collection, one of the most important and sought-after ranges produced by the renowned Scottish manufacturer during the golden age of Mid-Century Modern design.

The table is distinguished by its elegant boat-shaped top, a refined silhouette that perfectly embodies the timeless sophistication and restrained beauty of Scandinavian-inspired British furniture design. Crafted with remarkable attention to detail, the table includes one extension leaf ingeniously stored beneath the tabletop in a single piece. By smoothly pulling apart the main top, the hidden extension is easily revealed and positioned, showcasing the intelligent craftsmanship and practical elegance for which McIntosh became internationally admired.

What makes the Dunvegan collection especially important is the extraordinary organic joinery conceived by Tom Robertson. The seamless transition between the apron, legs, and tabletop demonstrates the sculptural artistry and cabinetmaking mastery that defined the finest Scottish furniture of the era. These beautifully flowing joints create a harmonious architectural form rarely found in modern production furniture.

Today, original examples from the Dunvegan range are increasingly collectible, appreciated for their exceptional craftsmanship, timeless proportions, and enduring design legacy. This table stands as a remarkable representation of 1960s Scottish Mid-Century Modern furniture, combining elegance, functionality, and heritage in one beautifully crafted piece.

Set of 6 dining chairs– 1962 Danish Mid-Century Modern

A set of an early and distinguished example of the  dining chair, conceived with a high-influence of the CH36 chair by Hans J Wegner in 1962 by the master of Danish modernism, Hans J. Wegner. This early production model features a simplified leg structure, notably without the later joint stretchers, reflecting a purer and more restrained interpretation of the design.

Crafted in warm, richly grained teakwood, this model embodies the quiet discipline and refined simplicity of its time. Its form is honest and enduring, with every curve shaped in quiet harmony and each joint a testament to traditional cabinetmaking. The gently arched backrest offers both grace and support, while the handwoven paper cord seatprovides a natural texture—light yet resilient—echoing time-honoured Scandinavian techniques.

This early edition carries the subtle character that only decades can bestow: a soft patina to the wood and a depth of tone that speaks of careful use and preservation. The original papercord seat remains intact, bearing gentle marks of age and use that attest to its authenticity and long history. For those who prefer a renewed finish, we are pleased to offer professional reweaving in new papercord (£130 per chair).

A timeless addition to any considered interior, where authenticity, craftsmanship, and quiet beauty are valued above all.

A thoughtfully crafted Danish dining table by Skovby, made in the 1960s, embodies the quiet ingenuity and enduring principles of Scandinavian design. Constructed in oak, with a solid oak frame, the table offers both strength and warmth through its finely grained timber.

In its closed form, the table presents a compact, square silhouette—measured and modest, well-suited to more intimate settings. Yet, with the graceful addition of its two extension leaves, it unfolds into a generous dining surface, capable of hosting larger gatherings with ease and dignity. This harmonious transformation speaks to a time when furniture was made not only to serve, but to adapt and endure.

A quiet dialogue between East and West, restraint and indulgence, unfolds in this distinguished set of four ‘Jano’ chairs, conceived by Kazuhide Takahama for Gavina in the mid-20th century.

Gracefully poised upon stainless steel frames, each chair carries the lightness of modernist vision, its lines precise yet unassuming. The structure, cool and luminous, is gently softened by the warmth of finely shaped mahogany armrests—an elegant contrast that speaks to a time when craftsmanship was both discipline and art.

The chairs retain their original upholstery in a soft cream velvet, a fabric that speaks gently of its years. There are visible signs of use, subtle traces of a life once lived, which lend character and authenticity rather than detract from their quiet elegance. Some of the armrests show signs of wear consistent with age, gentle marks that speak to their history and long service

Balanced in proportion—78 cm height, 61 cm width, 51 cm depth—these chairs present both presence and practicality, equally suited to a dining setting or a contemplative corner.

A design rooted in clarity and purpose, the ‘Jano’ chairs remain a testament to enduring taste, where form follows function, and beauty is found in the measured line.

Large Danish Teak Extending Dining Table by Harry Østergaard for Randers Møbelfabrik,

A rare expression of Danish ingenuity, this exceptional dining table was designed by Harry Østergaard for Randers Møbelfabrik in Denmark during the 1960s—an era when craftsmanship and quiet innovation walked hand in hand.

At first glance, the table speaks in the restrained language of mid-century design; yet beneath its composed surface lies a most unusual and refined mechanical extension system. Two extension leaves are ingeniously concealed beneath the main top, awaiting their moment. With a gentle pull of the opposing ends, the table reveals its secret: the extensions rise and unfold almost effortlessly, emerging in a fluid, near-automatic motion. It is a mechanism both practical and quietly remarkable—one seldom encountered, even among the finest Danish tables of its time.

Crafted from warm teak, the table rests upon a solid frame that ensures both strength and enduring stability. It has been fully restored, preserving its integrity while honouring the passage of years. As with many pieces touched by time and sunlight, the main surface has softened in tone, its darker grain less pronounced, while the extension leaves retain their deeper, richer veining—creating a gentle contrast that tells the story of its life.

The thoughtful proportions extend beyond its surface. A generous 152 cm span between the legs provides ample room for up to three chairs on each side, offering both comfort and flexibility. In its full extension, the table can accommodate up to 12 guests for convivial gatherings, or 10 in more relaxed comfort.

Generous in scale and uncommon in proportion, the table measures 180 x 100 cm when closed, extending to an impressive 292 x 100 cm, offering both intimacy and grandeur in equal measure.

A distinguished piece where thoughtful engineering meets timeless Danish design—best appreciated in motion, as its elegant transformation quietly unfolds.

A masterpiece of mid-century design, the CH23 Dining Chair stands as one of the earliest creations Hans J. Wegner crafted exclusively for Carl Hansen & Søn in 1950. These pioneering designs not only captured a distinct artistic elegance but also established enduring standards for modern furniture through their graceful form and thoughtful ergonomics.

At first glance, the CH23 exudes simplicity, yet a closer look reveals sophisticated details: the delicate cruciform cover caps on the backrest, the finely double-woven seat, and the subtly arched rear legs, offering both poise and stability.

Made from oak and walnut, the structure is tight and solid. The wood has been sanded and finished with Osmo Raw Oil, preserving the natural colour and grain while providing a subtle, protective finish.

Reintroduced in 2017, the chair remains faithful to Wegner’s original hand-drawn sketches, preserving every aesthetic and structural nuance.

In keeping with its age and honest use, the paper cord seat bears gentle signs of time, with light staining and the subtle imprint of years gone by. A graceful testament to enduring British design, this elegant love-seat was conceived by Lucian Ercolani and crafted by the renowned maker Ercol during the 1960s.

Shaped in beautifully figured elm, the bench reveals a flowing, sculptural seat with softly undulating contours — a hallmark of Ercolani’s devotion to comfort guided by nature’s quiet geometry. The slender spindle back rises with poised simplicity, lending the piece an airy lightness and refined presence.

Three spindles have been expertly turned and replaced in beech, ensuring structural strength while maintaining harmony with the original design. The warm tone and hand-finished grain celebrate the honest beauty of traditional craftsmanship.

Mid-Century wall unit bookcase by Avalon.

This modular wall unit was handcrafted in teak during the 1960s by Avalon Furniture in Somerset, England. Designed in the spirit of Scandinavian modernism, Avalon’s mid-century pieces were produced in-house to reflect the clean lines and functionality of the era.

We have configured this particular setup to present a balanced, straight-line composition by doubling the bays, allowing all modules to sit at the same level. However, the system is entirely flexible and can be reconfigured to suit your space and preferences.

Please note that bays cannot be shared at the same height — each metal upright (bay) supports only one module per level. This ensures structural integrity and preserves the original design principles.

The cabinets and shelves have been fully restored: carefully sanded and finished in oil, in keeping with the original treatment, preserving their authentic mid-century character and the warm tone of the teak.

One of the chests had previously sustained a small knock. This area has been carefully restored, and the mark has been blended as much as possible into the surrounding wood. Nevertheless, a faint trace remains — a small scar near the left corner of the chest — subtle, yet still visible upon close inspection.

The iron of the bays have been gently cleaned only. We chose not to repaint them black, as doing so would make the piece appear too new and detract from its honest, time-worn character. Should you prefer them refinished, this can be arranged for an additional £100.

If you require a specific number of cabinets, bays, or shelves, feel free to get in touch and I will be happy to provide a tailored quotation.

White and Newton sideboard (Petersfield collection)

This sideboard is a handcrafted piece from the 1960s, designed by Philip Hussey and made by the renowned cabinet maker White and Newton in Portsmouth, England. Hussey created this piece for the Peterfields Collection, featuring light teakwood, curved lines on the top and a flat front with minimalist built-in handles. This sideboard’s elegant and timeless design showcases Hussey’s mastery of his craft and the exceptional quality of White and Newton’s workmanship.

Philip is one of the unsung heroes of British furniture design who deserves to be far better known! As a young man of 24, he was appointed to replace Arthur Edwards as head designer of White and Newton in 1964. They were then a successful medium-sized maker of contemporary furniture, which was a little conservative in style. In the late 1960s, he pushed some boundaries, particularly in some of his sideboard designs, which moved White and Newton into a much more modern, stylish, minimalist direction. Some of these designs were very popular and came up for sale quite frequently, while others were too ahead of their time and are unfortunately rarely seen today. When they do appear, they’re now recognised as design classics.

    Large pine bookcase

I came across these two large pine bookcases at an antique fair in the south of England, and I fell in love instantly. Their graceful proportions, generous dimensions, and the refined moulding along the top give these pieces a quiet authority and timeless charm.

At present, I have images of only one bookcase, as the second is currently in our restoration workshop and will be ready soon. Both share the same elegant design, though the second piece is slightly smaller in height and length, while maintaining the same width.

Each bookcase features five adjustable shelves, all beautifully handcrafted in pine, offering ample and flexible storage while celebrating the natural warmth and texture of the wood.

A fine example of traditional craftsmanship, these bookcases embody the enduring spirit of classic English design—functional, honest, and full of character.

Arne Vodder Compact Teak Dressing Table – Ølholm Møbelfabrik, Denmark, 1960s

A piece born of grace and quiet ingenuity, this compact dressing table was designed by the revered Arne Vodder and handcrafted by Ølholm Møbelfabrik in Denmark during the golden age of Scandinavian modernism, the 1960s. Fashioned from vibrant, warm teak, its grain flows like rippling silk, rich in tone and steeped in the natural beauty so beloved in Nordic design.

The composition is both sculptural and poetic. Antique Leather-Lined Oak Writing Desk by Charles Lowe & Sons
    Handcrafted in Loughborough, Since 1825

Steeped in the grace of English craftsmanship and shaped by generations of skilled hands, this remarkable writing desk bears the proud mark of Charles Lowe & Sons — cabinetmakers in Loughborough since 1825. With over two centuries of heritage, this family firm has passed its wisdom through seven generations, perfecting the art of handcrafting in oak.

This desk is fully lined in time-softened leather, its surface adorned with elegant gold embossing and delicate hand-pressed designs that run like quiet poetry along its edges. The leather bears the beautiful imperfections of a life well lived — subtle ink stains, gentle water marks, and the rich, worn patina of years gone by. These honest traces of time do not diminish its beauty; rather, they deepen its soul, lending character that cannot be replicated, only earned.

The interior has been elegantly painted in a deep, lustrous black — a thoughtful contrast that enriches the overall presence of the piece, adding refinement to its rustic charm. Every drawer opens to reveal this rich finish, a quiet nod to the care placed in every corner.

This is not simply a desk — it is a vessel of history, a companion to thought, and a tribute to craftsmanship that values time, beauty, and integrity.

Long Sideboard (Dunbar collection by McIntosh)

Tom Robertson meticulously designed this exquisite long sideboard for his Dunbar collection, which was expertly handcrafted by A.H. McIntosh in the picturesque landscape of Scotland during the early 1970s. Constructed from stunning teak, the piece showcases a striking grain that adds depth and character to its form.

Our professional workshop in Tideswell, nestled in the heart of the Peak District, has undertaken a most careful and thorough restoration—an endeavour rooted in reverence for craftsmanship and time-honoured methods. Every detail has been attentively preserved, with thoughtful enhancements made to honour and elevate its enduring beauty.

It is worth noting that, even after the meticulous restoration, a small and discreet mark remains at the bottom of the right rear side—a gentle testament to its storied past. We invite you to zoom in on the photographs to fully appreciate this subtle detail, a quiet whisper of history that remains.

This sideboard commands attention with its elongated silhouette, featuring two spacious cupboards, each adorned with elegantly designed double doors. On the right side, a smart pull-out tray, finished in practical melamine, offers a convenient space for serving or displaying items, while the left side provides additional storage, making it both functional and stylish.

The sideboard’s design is further enhanced by four well-proportioned drawers, perfectly aligned to create a sense of symmetry and balance. The first set of drawers is dedicated to cutlery, combining practicality with aesthetic appeal, making this piece not just a statement of design, but also a cherished addition to any home.

With solid wood frames and caramel leather upholstery, these chairs are in good vintage condition, showing only normal wear and tear due to age. While the designer and the crafting company remain a mystery, I can assure you that these chairs are not just a piece of history but also the most comfortable lounge chairs you’ll ever experience.

Robert Maskrey was an influential furniture retailer and philanthropist. He ran the Welsh retailer Maskreys from 1970 to 2011 and had a 50-year career in the furniture industry.
He played a key role in introducing many of mainland Europe’s top furniture design brands to the UK for the first time. Known for his love of design and as one of the trade’s best buyers, he frequented furniture shows worldwide. In the 1950s, Maskreys became a specialist in sourcing and stocking innovative, contemporary home furnishings. It was recognized for showcasing the latest designs and styles and pioneering trends.
The company was the first to bring blond wood from Scandinavia to the UK in the 1950s, and it also introduced Ligne Roset and Hulsta to the UK in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Bedside Table By G Plan, 1960s

Viktor Wilkins designed these floating bedside tables for G-Plan in the ’60s in England.
In our restoration workshop, we added an extra feature to the bedside tables: a hanging bar with three holes that allow you to hang them directly to the wall without using the leg.
The bedside tables always need to add a screw to the wall to avoid tilt.

The restoration of the table has been successfully completed; however, a visible spot remains on the surface of one table. This imperfection is minor and the table is still in serviceable condition.
