Rare 1960s John Herbert for A. Younger Teak Sideboard – Sequence Collection
An exceptional and very rare example of mid-century British design, this long sideboard was designed by John Herbertfor A. Younger Ltd. in England during the 1960s. Part of the distinguished Sequence Collection, this piece represents one of Herbert’s most refined and elegant designs.
Unlike other models in the series, Herbert replaced the traditional wooden handles with beautifully elongated organic metal rings, adding a touch of sophistication and modernity to the timeless teak form. The result is a sideboard that feels both minimalist and luxurious, with perfect proportions and exquisite craftsmanship throughout.
Handcrafted in teak, the sideboard displays A. Younger’s hallmark quality—meticulous joinery, smooth lines, and a warm, rich grain. Its design maintains the spirit of Herbert’s celebrated Fonseca Collection, yet this example stands as a supreme evolution of his aesthetic: understated, functional, and undeniably elegant.
A true collector’s piece, this sideboard embodies the best of British mid-century modern design—rare, beautifully crafted, and effortlessly stylish.

I came across these two large pine bookcases at an antique fair in the south of England, and I fell in love instantly. Their graceful proportions, generous dimensions, and the refined moulding along the top give these pieces a quiet authority and timeless charm.
At present, I have images of only one bookcase, as the second is currently in our restoration workshop and will be ready soon. Both share the same elegant design, though the second piece is slightly smaller in height and length, while maintaining the same width.
Each bookcase features five adjustable shelves, all beautifully handcrafted in pine, offering ample and flexible storage while celebrating the natural warmth and texture of the wood.
A fine example of traditional craftsmanship, these bookcases embody the enduring spirit of classic English design—functional, honest, and full of character.
