Before all else, this remarkable dining table stands as a celebration of the visionary work of John Herbert, the celebrated Head of Design for A Younger Ltd. In 1960, Herbert was honoured by the Furniture Makers’ Guild for his outstanding sideboards and tables, creations that helped define the elegance and refinement of British Mid-Century Modern furniture.
This rare dining table is one of those distinguished designs — a seldom-seen model that captures the quiet sophistication and architectural purity for which Herbert became renowned. Crafted in richly figured teak, the table features a stunning one-piece top with an exceptional flowing grain pattern. The natural movement within the timber creates alternating highlights and warm tonal variations, giving the surface a remarkable sense of depth and character beneath the light.
Unlike extending models, this version was designed with a fixed top, allowing the proportions and uninterrupted teak grain to remain beautifully balanced and harmonious. The table’s greatest triumph lies in the masterful joinery between the apron and legs. Herbert designed the structure with an elegant flush transition, where each element flows organically into the next with remarkable restraint and precision. This clean sculptural detailing gives the table its refined architectural presence while preserving the softness and warmth of the natural wood.
Raised on slender tapered legs, the table embodies the timeless principles of Scandinavian and British Mid-Century design — simplicity, craftsmanship, and enduring beauty. A rare and highly collectible piece that would sit effortlessly within both contemporary and traditional interiors.

Arne Vodder Compact Teak Dressing Table – Ølholm Møbelfabrik, Denmark, 1960s
A piece born of grace and quiet ingenuity, this compact dressing table was designed by the revered Arne Vodder and handcrafted by Ølholm Møbelfabrik in Denmark during the golden age of Scandinavian modernism, the 1960s. Fashioned from vibrant, warm teak, its grain flows like rippling silk, rich in tone and steeped in the natural beauty so beloved in Nordic design.
The composition is both sculptural and poetic. A striking Y-shaped frame in solid teak cradles the main body with elegance and strength, allowing the central box to appear suspended—floating, almost ethereal, as if lifted by a breath of Danish air. This architectural flourish is not mere embellishment; it embodies the Danish principle of form serving function with grace.
The dressing table features a thoughtfully arranged bank of five drawers: two larger ones on either side, and three petite drawers nestled just below the original mirror—perfectly proportioned for treasured essentials. Each drawer is delicately crafted, echoing Vodder’s masterful eye for detail and his devotion to refined utility.
Modest in scale yet grand in presence, this dressing table is a rare ode to craftsmanship, designed to endure not only in structure but in beauty. A timeless artefact that speaks softly of elegance, tradition, and the enduring soul of Danish design.

Antique Leather-Lined Oak Writing Desk by Charles Lowe & Sons
Handcrafted in Loughborough, Since 1825Steeped in the grace of English craftsmanship and shaped by generations of skilled hands, this remarkable writing desk bears the proud mark of Charles Lowe & Sons — cabinetmakers in Loughborough since 1825. With over two centuries of heritage, this family firm has passed its wisdom through seven generations, perfecting the art of handcrafting in oak.
This desk is fully lined in time-softened leather, its surface adorned with elegant gold embossing and delicate hand-pressed designs that run like quiet poetry along its edges. The leather bears the beautiful imperfections of a life well lived — subtle ink stains, gentle water marks, and the rich, worn patina of years gone by. These honest traces of time do not diminish its beauty; rather, they deepen its soul, lending character that cannot be replicated, only earned.
The interior has been elegantly painted in a deep, lustrous black — a thoughtful contrast that enriches the overall presence of the piece, adding refinement to its rustic charm. Every drawer opens to reveal this rich finish, a quiet nod to the care placed in every corner.
This is not simply a desk — it is a vessel of history, a companion to thought, and a tribute to craftsmanship that values time, beauty, and integrity.
