A beautifully crafted modular shelving unit designed by Robert Heritage for Avalon and handcrafted in the UK.
The composition combines a long teak sideboard with two sliding-door cupboards at each end and a central bank of three drawers, together with a long open teak shelf. Above, the bookcase features a generous open central section, flanked by a smaller cupboard on each side, each enclosed by a sliding door.
Two elegant black metal structures support the teak modules, creating a light, architectural look while providing a strong, practical framework.
The unit has arrived in exceptionally good original condition. Our restorers only needed to carefully clean all components, including the teak modules and shelf, then apply wax to revive and protect the teak’s natural colour and character.
A versatile and beautifully proportioned example of British mid-century design, offering generous storage and display space while making a strong architectural statement.

A striking Architect bookcase, handcrafted by Roche Bobois, offered in its original condition. The bookcase is composed of three separate modules, making it easier to transport and deliver.
The bookcase currently includes four glass shelves. Two additional shelves are missing.
There is a crack in the rear back panel, which does not affect the bookcase’s functionality or use. Zoom in on the pictures to appreciate it.
The second door from the left on the top module has a small scratch on the glass. I have photographed it for transparency, although the scratch is very difficult to discern in the photographs and is not particularly noticeable.
The bookcase is offered at £3,800 in its original condition, including the four existing glass shelves.
For those who would prefer to have the bookcase refreshed, I have also obtained a quotation from our restorers for the following work:
- Repairing the crack and painting the interior in a bespoke colour: £500
- New tempered-glass shelves: £120 each
This would allow the new owner to choose a colour for the interior and have the two missing shelves replaced, creating a more complete and personalised finish.

A beautiful 1960s dining table designed by Richard Young and handcrafted in England by Merrow Associates, one of the most distinctive British furniture makers of the period.
The table is beautifully crafted in warm, richly grained teak and features a spinning teak Lazy Susan at the centre, adding both character and practicality to the design. The combination of natural teak with the sculptural steel legs is particularly striking and reflects the industrial yet elegant aesthetic that became a signature of Richard Young’s work for Merrow Associates.
The bold steel base gives the table a wonderfully architectural presence, while the warmth of the teak softens its appearance, creating a sophisticated balance between industrial materials and natural wood. A highly versatile piece, it would make a striking centrepiece in both a mid-century and contemporary dining interior.
The table has been completely professionally restored and is now in excellent condition. For complete transparency, there is a very small 1 cm repair to the teak tabletop, where a tiny section was replaced following previous damage. The repair has been carefully and sympathetically carried out and is discreet, with no impact on the beauty, structural integrity or everyday use of the table.
A distinctive example of British 1960s design, combining craftsmanship, functionality and the unmistakable character of Richard Young’s furniture.

A beautifully designed mid-century oval dining table by White & Newton of Portsmouth, one of the respected British furniture makers of the 1960s. The company’s principal designers during this period included Arthur Edwards and Philip Hussey, whose work is known for its elegant proportions and carefully considered construction.
This table is crafted in warm teak and features a particularly clever extending mechanism. The additional leaf is folded and stored neatly beneath the main tabletop when not in use. By pulling out the mechanism, the extension can be accessed and unfolded, creating a larger oval dining surface while maintaining the graceful lines of the original design.
The table is also distinguished by its flush joints between the apron and legs, creating a continuous, clean-lined structure. This construction not only gives the table a refined appearance but also provides a strong and exceptionally solid framework.
A fine example of British mid-century furniture, combining practical design with the warmth and natural character of teak.
