Mid-Century wall unit bookcase by Avalon.

This modular wall unit was handcrafted in teak during the 1960s by Avalon Furniture in Somerset, England. Designed in the spirit of Scandinavian modernism, Avalon’s mid-century pieces were produced in-house to reflect the clean lines and functionality of the era.

We have configured this particular setup to present a balanced, straight-line composition by doubling the bays, allowing all modules to sit at the same level. However, the system is entirely flexible and can be reconfigured to suit your space and preferences.

Please note that bays cannot be shared at the same height — each metal upright (bay) supports only one module per level. This ensures structural integrity and preserves the original design principles.

The cabinets and shelves have been fully restored: carefully sanded and finished in oil, in keeping with the original treatment, preserving their authentic mid-century character and the warm tone of the teak.

One of the chests had previously sustained a small knock. This area has been carefully restored, and the mark has been blended as much as possible into the surrounding wood. Nevertheless, a faint trace remains — a small scar near the left corner of the chest — subtle, yet still visible upon close inspection.

The iron of the bays have been gently cleaned only. We chose not to repaint them black, as doing so would make the piece appear too new and detract from its honest, time-worn character. Should you prefer them refinished, this can be arranged for an additional £100.

Long and narrow sideboard by McIntosh

Conceived in Scotland in the early 1970s, this elegant sideboard was designed by Tom Robertson and Val Rossi for the esteemed cabinetmakers A.H. McIntosh, a name long associated with integrity of form and excellence of workmanship.

The composition is both practical and poised. To the left, a bank of three drawers offers generous storage, the upper drawer thoughtfully lined for cutlery. To the right, a cupboard enclosed by two plain doors provides discreet space, preserving the clean, unbroken rhythm of the façade. The design is distinguished by its elongated, gently curved handles, which draw the eye along the length of the piece and lend it a quiet sculptural grace.

Fashioned in richly toned teak, the sideboard reveals the natural beauty of the wood, its grain warm and expressive, softened by time and careful use. The slender proportions and narrow body enhance its sense of lightness, allowing it to sit effortlessly within both contemporary and traditionally minded interiors.

A refined example of Scottish modern design, where restraint, utility, and enduring craftsmanship are held in perfect accord.

Designed by Tom Robertson and patented by A.H. McIntosh in the 1960s for the Dunvegan collection, this double-extension dining table stands as a fine example of mid-century Scottish craftsmanship. Handcrafted in beautiful teak, it displays an outstanding grain, where organic shapes and gentle black streaks move across the surface, giving the wood a natural depth and quiet elegance.

The table is equipped with two folded extension leaves, discreetly stored beneath the main top. They are easily accessed by gently drawing the top towards each end; with the quiet grace of butterfly wings, the leaves unfold and lock seamlessly into place, extending the surface in a manner both fluid and assured.
