Mid-Century British Chest of Drawers (Wrighton)
900.00€
Out of stock
A rare and beautifully designed British Mid-Century chest of drawers, designed by Frank F. Scott for Wrighton in England in the late 1950s and produced in the 1960s.
The design was originally conceived as a dressing table and first exhibited in 1958, later appearing in The Cabinet Maker, the leading British furniture trade journal of the period.
With six drawers of different heights, the chest has a wonderfully sculptural, balanced appearance. The integrated built-in handles are particularly distinctive and demonstrate how forward-thinking the design was for its time, avoiding the conventional protruding handles found on most furniture of the period.
Wrighton were best known for their pioneering fitted kitchens, but also produced a smaller range of more ambitious, design-led furniture. Frank F. Scott was one of the company’s lesser-known staff designers, making surviving examples of his work particularly interesting.
This chest has been carefully restored in our workshop, preserving the character and integrity of the original design while restoring the beauty of the timber.
A distinctive, uncommon example of British Mid-Century furniture, ideal as bedroom storage or a stylish standalone piece.
Dimensions:
L x W: 69 x 46 cm
Height: 103.5 cm
Dimensions of the drawers (interior): 47.5 x 33.5 cm heights two of 13cm and two of 8 cm.
