A Highland Classic: Restored Teak Sideboard by Tom Robertson for A.H. McIntosh (Early 1970s)
Designed in the early 1970s by the esteemed Tom Robertson for the revered Scottish maker A.H. McIntosh, this sideboard is a testament to the enduring grace of Mid-Century craftsmanship. With a slightly elevated stature — standing proudly at 82 cm — it commands a noble presence while remaining elegantly understated.
Fashioned from rich, vibrant teak, the sideboard is distinguished by its finely sculpted organic handles and a flowing grain that captures the natural poetry of wood. The piece has been lovingly and thoroughly restored: its surfaces have been carefully sanded and refinished using hardwax and finish oil by Fiddes, imbuing it with both resilience and a warm, satin glow.
Time has left its quiet whispers — the top drawer and surface bear the faint trace of a black shadow, a vestige of an old mark that, though unable to be erased entirely, blends harmoniously within the depth of the grain. On the left side, gentle impressions from past scratches remain subtly visible, though artfully treated and disguised in the restoration process. These marks do not detract but rather lend the piece its honest character — a reminder of its long, storied life.
Please zoom in on the photographs to fully appreciate the condition and graceful detailing of this timeless heirloom.

Tom Robertson designed this sideboard for the Moy collection in the ’60s for A.H. McIntosh in Scotland.
Please remember the following description:
“This sideboard is a smaller version of the successful Dunvegan model from the 1960s and is still popular today. The McIntosh collection remains a best-seller. This version does not include the bar cabinet and continues to feature elongated, organically shaped handles, making it highly sought after. It retains three drawers on the left, with the first designed for organizing cutlery. The cabinet is closed by two symmetrical doors and contains a sinuous-shaped tray, storing objects of different heights.”
The sideboard made of teak wood has a grain characterized by the beauty of the water that forms its grain and the dark highlights that teak gives.
For a limited time, this sideboard is available at a lower price, making it a cost-effective choice for those who appreciate quality design. The absence of metal regulators on its legs does not compromise its functionality in any way.

White and Newton sideboard (Peterfield collection)
£1,500.00 Leer másWhite and Newton sideboard (Peterfield collection)
This sideboard is a handcrafted piece from the 1960s, designed by Philip Hussey and made by the renowned cabinet maker White and Newton in Portsmouth, England. Hussey created this piece for the Peterfields Collection, featuring light teakwood, curved lines on the top and a flat front with minimalist built-in handles. This sideboard’s elegant and timeless design showcases Hussey’s mastery of his craft and the exceptional quality of White and Newton’s workmanship.
Philip is one of the unsung heroes of British furniture design who deserves to be far better known! As a young man of 24, he was appointed to replace Arthur Edwards as head designer of White and Newton in 1964. They were then a successful medium-sized maker of contemporary furniture, which was a little conservative in style. In the late 1960s, he pushed some boundaries, particularly in some of his sideboard designs, which moved White and Newton into a much more modern, stylish, minimalist direction. Some of these designs were very popular and came up for sale quite frequently, while others were too ahead of their time and are unfortunately rarely seen today. When they do appear, they’re now recognised as design classics.
