Description
This is a 19th Century British Colonial West Indian teak Chaise Longue.Spirited carved mahogany chaise or recamier, from the West Indies, with elegant classic form. Inspired by the sea with graceful wavy lines and carved nautilus shells surrounding a star medallion. Hand caned seat, back, and side. Best of its genre. Similar chaises longues attributed to Barbados, are illustrated in West Indian Furniture and the Lesser Antilles by Philip Strum.
